Gold Belt Tour Scenic and Historic Byway
The Old Homestead, CO

In the days when the Gold Camps were scattered about an unsettled Colorado, houses of ill repute sprang up from place to place. The most famous and extravagant of these houses was the Old Homestead in Cripple Creek. Today, visitors can tour the lavish Victorian decor of the house and see furniture, dress, and items from this time period.

The house was designed and constructed in 1896 by excellent architects and builders and achieved the fame of many European houses of the same profession. The women there were dressed only in the finest of gowns and accessories. Their clothing and furnishings often came from Paris. These items can still be observed today as visitors tour the Homestead House Museum.
