p>Try one of the trails along the Gold Belt Tour for a good time and an opportunity to learn a little more about the gold rush here. The following trails are great for exploring:

  • The Vindicator Valley Trail
  • Battle Mountain Trail
  • Little Grouse Mountain Trail
  • Gold Camp Trail
  • Each trail tells its own story about the Colorado Gold Rush near Victor and Cripple Creek.

    The Vindicator Valley Trail takes visitors to the historic town of Independence where they will hike near some of the largest mines in the area. There are two trailheads: one across from Goldfield and the other at the Vindicator Mine on Teller County Road 831.

    Battle Mountain Trail leads hikers past Independence Mine where Winfield Scott Stratten found millions of dollars in gold. The trail begins at Stratton's Independence Mine, just outside of Victor, on the Range View Road.

    Little Grouse Mountain Trail climbs a hillside to present an overlook of surrounding mountains. It begins west of of Victor on the south side of the new bridge on Highway 67.

    Gold Camp Trail runs through a place called Poverty Gulch. Visitors will find out about Bob Womack's discovery of gold and about the Gold Coin Mine. The trail begins in Cripple Creek at the Hoosier Mine.
