Unaweep/Tabeguache Scenic and Historic Byway
Bicycle/Pedestrian Facilities

The byway offers mountain bikers and road cyclists access to a vast array of back roads and trails on BLM land and the Uncompahgre National Forest via Divide Road. Hiking backpacking, mountain bike riding, horseback riding, big game hunting, fishing and 4-wheel/ATV back-road travel can also be enjoyed. Endless miles of BLM and Forest Service jeep trails cross the Uncompahgre Plateau. Following is a list of the trails on the byway:

  • The Tabeguache Mountain Bike Trail crosses Hwy 141 at the first bridge over East Creek (m.p. 152). The trail runs 142 miles from Montrose to Grand Junction.
  • The Cactus Park Road to the east of Gunnison Gravels Natural Research Area provides access to BLM lands on the Uncompahgre Plateau for hunting, fishing, hiking, camping and wildlife viewing.
  • The Wildcat Trail (m.p. 133.0) is a planned Forest Service interpretive area and rest stop.
