Pioneer Mountains Scenic Byway

Along the byway there are numerous trailheads for hiking and biking trails leading into the East and West Pioneer Mountain ranges that parallel the byway. Most trails leading into the byway are well maintained.

Many of these trails lead hardy hikers, backpackers and stock users into high elevation lakes deep in the heart of the Pioneer Mountains. For individuals having the time and physical ability, trips into backcountry areas can be a rewarding experience.

Mountain biking is an option along some of the gentler trails.

The ghost town of Coolidge and the Elkhorn Mine can be reached by a 1/4 mile hiking trail from the parking area.
