The Pacific Coast Highway 101 runs by some of the world's greatest beaches, among them are Coos Bay, Cannon Beach, Winchester Bay and Nye Beach. Nye Beach is a historic beach front community that dates back to the late 1800s and a time of bath houses. Cannon Beach is the site of the annual Sandcastle Contest, held in early June, it features sand sculpted serpents, castles and other gigantic man-made structures. Take the Discovery Drive, from Salmon Harbor Marina to the beaches and Umpqua Lighthouse. It's a beautiful, scenic drive.
