Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway
National Forest: Deschutes National Forest
Length: 66.0 mi / 106.2 km
Time to Allow: Take three to five hours to visit this byway.
This byway cuts a path through the mountains, lakes, and forests of central Oregon. Volcanism and glaciation formed more than 150 lakes for which the region is well known. See outstanding examples of lava flows, alpine lakes, and meadows. Cross paths taken by such historic figures as Kit Carson.
The word "epic" gets thrown around a lot these days, but the Pacific Crest Trail earns the distinction. Learn a new reckoning for time and distance while making the 2,650-mile journey through twenty-four national parks, thirty-three wildernesses, and six out of the seven climate zones in North America.
Are you looking to ski out West this winter? Visit Oregon's Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway in the Deschutes National Forest. With more than four ski resorts and the greatest concentration of glaciers in the West, you’ll find plenty of spots for both downhill and cross-country skiing.
