  • Payette National Forest

    Payette National Forest (ID)

    The Payette National Forest spans over 2.3 million acres of some of west-central Idaho's most beautiful and diverse country. In one day you can travel from hot desert grasslands through cool conifer forests to snow-capped peaks.

  • Baker City/Baker Valley

    Baker City/Baker Valley (OR)

    The town is (in part) a historic district filled with beautifully restored commercial buildings and homes of the late nineteeth and early twentieth century. The historic district is listed in the national register of historic places.

    It's on the west end of the byway, at the intersection of I-84 and SR 86.

  • Buckhorn Springs Lookout (OR)

    The magnificent view you see from Buckhorn Springs Lookout is the parallel canyons of Horse Creek, Lightning Creek, and Cow Creek coming into the lmnaha Canyon.

  • Columbia River Basalt (OR)

    Lava covered this land up to 200 feet thick in some places. 38 different layers of lava can be seen in canyon areas. Columnar basalt is an impressive pillar formation found in some layers during the cooling process.

  • Cricket Flat (OR)

    Cricket Flat is prime cattle country with broad open ridges and narrow, timbered canyons.

  • Elgin (OR)

    From rodeos to theater, Elgin hosts many community events and is the gateway to recreation and adventure in the region.

  • Enterprise (OR)

    Many local events, shops, and outfitters make Enterprise one of Wallowa Valley's largest communities.

  • The Grande Ronde Valley (OR)

    This is the largest completely enclosed circular valley in the world. It is rimmed by the Blue and Wallowa Mountains.

    A popular winter destination for snowmobilers, Halfway lives up to its name, as it is the midway point between the town of Pine and the gold mines of Cornucopia.

  • Hells Canyon Overlook

    Hells Canyon Overlook (OR)

    The paved overlook provides outstanding views of McGraw Creek, Hells Canyon, and the Seven Devils Mountains. From the 5,400 foot high canyon rim, visitors can enjoy sweeping views and interesting displays about the canyon formation.
