Loess Hills Scenic Byway
Turin Man Archaeological Site, IA

In 1955, archaeologists uncovered the remains of four 5,000 year old skeletons in the Loess Hills at Turin, Iowa. Collectively the remains became known as the Turin Man. They are believed to be the oldest remains ever uncovered in Iowa. Today, you can visit the adjacent City Park to learn more about this ancient cemetery and discover how Iowa’s state burial law influenced the passage of the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act.
