Loess Hills Scenic Byway
Loess Hills State Forest, IA

Located on the Preparation Loop, this forest preserve has several segments in Monona and Harrison Counties. Throughout recent decades, the state of Iowa has been able to acquire the lands that make up the Loess Hills State Forest. It now consists of 17,190 acres of land. This land is continually being restored and preserved to maintain its original prairie characteristics. Visitors and residents alike are appreciative of the natural state of the Loess Hills Forest and make efforts to make sure it continues as protected prairie land.
