Special Considerations
- Always be prepared for wildlife crossing the road.
- Avoid the occasional sharp rocks that tumble onto the road.
- Pay attention to the road closure signs. The 6000-foot summit and snow park may be inaccessible from the California side due to snow between December and May.
- At Happy Camp, Highway 96 does continue along the Klamath River to Willow Creek and Hwy 299, then to the coast near Eureka. It's a stunning drive, but recent rockslides and road repairs have caused delays.
Restrictions
The snow park at the Greyback Sumit out of Happy Camp may unreachable due to snow from December through May. The route is briefly closed by winter slides.
