A mountain-bike-friendly side trip on the historic stage road follows the Klamath River past many old homesites for 28 miles. State of Jefferson has many river-access locations and very little traffic. Cross the Ash Creek Bridge and come out at Horse Creek. Hundreds of miles of side roads into the mountains exist for biking and hiking. Hwy 96 was made for logging trucks, so walk or bike with caution.
