North Pend Oreille Scenic Byway
Boundary Dam, WA

The dam was built in 1967 in the treacherous Z-Canyon portion of the Pend Oreille River. The dam's powerhouse was carved into the rock to preserve the landscape. In the early years, locals square-danced on the dam's generators. Boundary Dam provides more than half of Seattle’s electricity.

Jet boat tours afford visitors a glimpse of the area's rugged landscape. The highlight of the tour is a close encounter with thundering 200-foot high Pee Wee Falls. The boat takes visitors close enough to feel the fall's spray on their faces. Tours are available throughout the summer.
