Special Considerations
Gasoline is available in Ione, along the Pend Oreille River, Metaline, and Metaline Falls.
Restrictions
Road closures are not common along this route. They only rarely happen in the spring, when slides are caused by melting snow. When this does happen, they are cleared quickly by the state road crews.
Seasons
- Best Time to Drive
Each of our four seasons are delightful. Summers and winters are gorgeous and jam-packed with activities; fall bursts with brilliant color, and the spring is fresh and green.
- High Season
June to October is a bit busier: the popular Lion's Club train ride brings in about 2000 people a weekend, and each town is busy with its own summer festival.
