Mount Baker Highway (Route 542)
Artist Point, WA
The farthest point available by car, Artist Point lets visitors view the Mount Baker in wild, rugged glory. The sight of Mount Shuksan reflected in the still waters of Picture Lake is one of the most photographed mountain views in the world. Taking the striking contrast of the black rock, white snow, and gleaming icy blue of glaciers, it is not hard ot understand why this area was named Artist Point. Many trails begin from this point, taking travelers through flowering meadows, past abandoned gold mines, and over ridges and volcanic debris. This is also the beginning spot for the world famous Ski to Sea Race in May.
