Delta National Wildlife Refuge, LA
This refuge, located in Venice, Louisiana, was established in 1935. It was formed by the deposition of sediment carried by the Mississippi River, and it is home to a vast amount of wildlife. The refuge's lush, green marshes provide a safe habitat for a wide variety of fish, birds, and mammals. Tens of thousands of waterfowl winter in the refuge, and copious amounts of other bird species can be found in the area. Numerous mammals reside in the refuge year-round, including nutria, deer, and swamp rabbits. The refuge's marshes and waterways provide year-round and seasonal habitat for many fish and shellfish species.
