Preserving history has been a large part of Imperial's heritage. Just outside of the town, visitors will find the Mastodon State Historic Site an the Sandy Creek Covered Bridge State Historic Site.

At the 425 acre Mastadon site, visitors can learn more about the 19th century excavations of Ice-Age mastadons and wooly mammoths.

The historic bridge at Sandy Creek Covered Bridge State Historic Site was built after the Civil War in 1872. When the bridge was washed away by a flood in 1886, it was rebuilt the next year.
