Great River Road - Wisconsin
Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge, WI

The 6,000-acre Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge hugs the banks of the Mississippi River and provides an abundance of outdoor activities to its visitors.

Explore a variety of riverside, prairie, and bottomland forest habitats, many of which are accessible through the 5-mile loop road.

The refuge's wetlands are home to a wide range of birds including ducks, geese, herons, egrets and Bald Eagles. Keep a sharp eye and spot up to 200 eagles as the ice goes out on the marsh. The best times for observing large concentrations of birds are April through mid-May and October through mid-November.
