Biking

One great bike route on route 16 from Milton to Wakefield has four-foot (and wider in places) paved shoulders. For information about other bike trails, contact Wakefield Bicycle Touring (2723 Wakefield Road) at 603-522-8272.

Hiking

New Hampshire is full of great hiking trails. Three trails in the Lakes Region (but not on the byway) are highlighted here.

Blue Job Mountain Crown Point Road

There are excellent views from a fire tower on the summit. A shaded foot trail and a cart track wind through blueberry fields. The road is about one mile long, round-trip, with access from 202A from Rochester.

Red Hill

Trail follows jeep road to a fire tower; about 3 1/2 miles, round-trip. Access from Rt. 25 on Bean Road NE of Center Harbor.

Squam Range

Numerous trails are maintained by Squam Lakes Association. Trail guide and info are available locally. Access from Route 113 in Holderness.
