Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Byway
Atkins Arboretum at Tuckahoe State Park, MD

Tuckahoe Creek, for which the park is named, is a quiet country stream that slaves fleeing from the west would eventually have to cross. Sweet gum trees throughout the park drop their spiny seed pods to the ground as a reminder of the challenges enslaved people faced running barefoot through the woods at night.

The Atkins Arboretum offers programs and tours, while boating, fishing, camping, hiking, biking, horseback riding, canoeing, hunting, picnicking, and a playground can be enjoyed throughout the rest of the park.
