Baltimore's Historic Charles Street
Basilica of the National Shrine of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, MD
The Historic Baltimore Basilica, built 1806-1821, is the first Roman Catholic cathedral constructed in the US after the adoption of the Constitution. Two prominent Americans guided the Basilica’s design and architecture: John Carroll (first American Archbishop and Charles Carroll’s cousin, signer of the Declaration of Independence) and Benjamin Latrobe (father of American architecture and Architect of the Capitol). Come see for yourself this Shrine that quickly became a symbol of the country’s religious freedom.
