Great River Road
Trempealeau, WI
This village was named after neighboring Trempealeau Mountain - a navigational landmark used by early French fur traders. Trempealeau's downtown originally faced the riverfront and steamboat landings but a fire destroyed the commercial district in 1887 so business owners moved to Main Street. Lock and Dam No. 6 is located in Trempealeau with an observation deck and Perrot State Park is nearby with many archaeological and historical exhibits. Visitors will also find the Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge where many birds and waterfowl find a place to stop and nest.
