While touring the Great River Road in Iowa, be sure to stop at the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium in Dubuque. This museum on the river offers many exhibits and interactive displays that tell a 300-year history of the Mississippi River. Learn more about the people who explored it and the people who lived on it. The interactive orientation film, River of Dreams will pique the interest of travelers young or old. Experience the past of the Mississippi River as you explore old-fashioned boats, canoes, and steamships. The Dubuque County Historical Society operates this museum as well as several other historical stops in Dubuque.
You can also visit the Diamond Jo National River Center, an expansion to the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium. It includes a 3D/4D digital theater, three galleries, and a new gift shop and eatery.
