Special Considerations

  • Ranching is a primary means of livelihood in this area. Please close gates and do not disturb livestock.
  • Summer temperatures can be very hot and this area is in the direct sun. Please plan accordingly. Bring a lot of water and sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses are highly recommended.
  • Flash floods can occur in this area at any time of the year without warning.

Restrictions

  • Drinking water is NOT available. You must pack your own water in.
  • Because part of the road to the Canyonlands is not maintained, high-clearance 4WD vehicles are recommended.
  • No camping or unauthorized motorized vehicles are allowed in Picketwire Canyonlands.
