Journey Through Hallowed Ground Byway
Monocacy National Battlefield, MD

The history of the Civil War comes alive at the Monocacy Battlefield Park. The park marks the battle that stopped the last attempt by the South to invade the North, when General Jubal Early’s troops, coming north from the Shenandoah Valley, hoped to turn south toward Washington. They were kept at bay by Union troops, and the one-day delay allowed other Union forces to stop Early's march on Washington.

A visitor center at this site offers multimedia exhibits that convey information about the crucial 1864 battle.
