Bicycle/Pedestrian Facilities
In Maryland
Bicycling along portions of US 15 between Culpeper and US 15 Business in Pennsylvania is either expressly prohibited or discouraged. Alternative routes for cyclists are along MD 351, MD 180, Hessong Bridge Rd, and Old Frederick Rd, among others.
The byway’s “Historic Main Street” communities offer extensive pedestrian improvements and many, including Frederick, have walking tours.
In Virginia
Bicycling along portions of US 15 between Culpeper and the VA/MD border is either expressly prohibited or discouraged. However, VDOT has plans for a bike path along sections of US 15, and Virginia Tech graduate students prepared a Bicycle and Pedestrian Trail Plan that creates a safe touring route along roads that roughly parallel the byway and enters each of the downtowns along the main spine.
The byway’s “Historic Main Street” communities offer extensive pedestrian improvements and many – including Leesburg, Warrenton, Remington, Culpeper, Orange, and Charlottesville – have walking tours.
In Pennsylvania
The Gettysburg National Military Park has extensive pedestrian and bicycle accommodations, and the city of Gettysburg offers a walking tour and pedestrian improvements including sidewalks to the battlefield.
