  • Cross Roads to Rushing Creek and Wranglers’ Campgrounds (KY)

    Camp with your horses at Wranglers Campground with modern hookups, restrooms & showers, camping shelters, a farrier, stalls for your horses, nearly 100 miles of trails and backroads, guided trail rides and an outpost supply center. For a quieter experienc,: Rushing Creek Campground has basic camping with a view of the lake, playground, restroom, showers, ice and firewood sales.

    Location:

    Mile 14 on the Kentucky Woodlands Trace. Turn left to reach Wranglers if headed south or turn right to Rushing Creek.

  • Elk, Bison Prairie

    Elk, Bison Prairie (KY)

    This 700-plus acre prairie restoration is home to a large herd of both bison and elk. The acreage is enclosed by a high fence and includes a three-and-a-half mile drive-through loop. Pamphlets and roadside exhibits give visitors a self-guided experience. The annual Prairie Celebration at Golden Pond Visitor Center highlights cultural and natural history of the prairie.

  • Golden Pond Planetarium and Visitor Center (KY)

    Inside the center is an 80-seat planetarium offering programs on the universe, the night sky and atmosphere. An outside observatory adds to the program offerings of the center allowing real time viewing of the night sky.

  • Hillman Ferry Campground (KY)

    Hillman Ferry campground is the only major family campground with an entrance directly off the Woodlands Trace. It has accommodations for more than 378 camping units and offers all the amenities of a full service campground including an outpost, beach, amphitheater, pavilion, playgrounds, ball fields, and boat ramps.

  • Hopkinsville (KY)

    This quaint town was settled in 1796 by Bartholomew and Martha Ann Wood.

    Intersection of State Road 180 and State Road 109.

  • Kentucky Lake Drive

    Kentucky Lake Drive (KY)

    This one-way, one mile loop drive offers visitors wide sweeping views from the bluffs overlooking Kentucky Lake. The scenic drive offers several gravel pull-offs with picnic tables.

  • Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area (KY)

    Whether your interests are hiking, camping, wildlife viewing, horseback riding or canoeing, you will find your own outdoor paradise at the Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area.

  • Moss Creek Day Use Area (KY)

    This site provides picnicking and swimming opportunities on the shores of Kentucky Lake. Mile-wide scenic views of the lake are available at this location.

  • Murray (KY)

    This city has its own university and many other resources worth investigating.

    Intersection of SR 94 and US 641.

  • Northern Nature Watch Area (KY)

    Northern Nature Watch Area surrounds Woodlands Nature Station, which is considered the hub of activity and information for nature exploration. Five hiking trails offer opportunities to bring visitors close up to nature in a variety of habitats. Interpretive staff lead various excursions into the area and its surroundings. Daily programs and monthly events are offered.

    Location:

    The 5,515-acre Nature Watch Area borders the western side of the Trace between Mulberry Flat and Silver Trail roads at mile 29.7 and 32.2 respectively.
