Special Considerations

Weekday commuting patterns across the bridges (especially Amwell Road and the Griggstown Causeway) should be avoided.

The Griggstown and Blackwell’s Mill Causeways are closed periodically due to flooding.

Restrictions

The Blackwell’s Mill Causeway is limited to 20 tons, vehicle and load. The Griggstown Causeway is limited to 5 tons, vehicle and load.

Best Time to Drive

Fall is the best time to drive the byway and appreciate the historic sites in their setting along the Canal and through the towns.
