Visitor Services
Visitor services are located throughout the byway. Most visitor amenities are available in Gainesville and Micanopy. The Paynes Prairie State Preserve has visitor center services and can assist you with local area activities.
Some bi-lingual information is available from the Alachua County Visitors and Convention Bureau. Most places located along the corridor accommodate only English-speaking visitors.

Special Considerations
Special barriers have been created to protect wildlife from entering the roadway. Please continue to be conscious of local wildlife.
Restrictions
All-terrain vehicles (ATVs) are prohibited on the dirt trails.
The highway does not close as a rule. Flooding in 1998 caused some lane closures but US 441 remained open.
Seasons
- Best Time to Drive
The most enjoyable times to visit the Old Florida Heritage Highway is from April to May and September to November due to the most pleasant weather and fewer visitors to the region.
- High Season
November to March is considered the Old Florida Heritage Highway's busy season due to the many visitors escaping winter's grasp. However, the byway is not usually crowded, except during the Micanopy Fall Festival held the first week of November each year.
- Shoulder Season
Wildflowers are most colorful and abundant in spring and fall.
