Big Spring Scenic Backway
Bridger-Teton National Forest, WY
Established in 1911, Bridger National Forest is one of the largest national forests with its 3.4 million acres. Wyoming's highest peak, Gannet Peak, reaching 13,804 ft, is located here.
The National Forest gets its name from the famous mountain man and explorer, Jim Bridger. He and other trappers would rendezvous in various locations in the Forest for fur trading and other activities.
Visitors can expect to see large mammals such as moose, elk, and deer, along with fox, badgers, eagles, and the enormous sandhill cranes. The National Forest also houses livestock. Moreover, under the Forest's direction, such activities as hunting and logging are common to see.
