Historic National Road - West Virginia
Shepherd Hall (Monument Place), WV
This was the stately home of Lynda Boggs and Moses Shepherd and has a history rooted in the early days of America. Lydia and her husband Colonel Moses Shepherd, the proprietors of Shepherd Mansion in the late 1700s, were influential advocates of the first National Road and responsible for getting it routed past their mansion.The Marquis de Lafayette, Andrew Jackson, James K. Polk, and Henry Clay are reported to have been guests here.
