Lakes to Locks Passage
Waterford's Canal Harbor Welcome Center, NY

A new interpretive sign indicates the junction of New York's three major heritage corridors - the Hudson River National Heritage Corridor, the Mohawk Valley Heritage Corridor, and the Lakes to Locks Passage. All three corridors merge at this location within the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor.

From Waterford to Whitehall, the Champlain Canal provides sixty-three miles of scenic boating - plus waterfront picnic parks and trails-- at eleven lock locations and numerous canal towns. The City of Waterford is the gateway to the south along the Hudson River to New York City, the west along the Erie Canal and Mohawk River, and the north along the Champlain Canal and upper Hudson River. Heading north from Lock C1 to C7, the Champlain Canal is a marked channel within the Hudson River, with man-made channels and locks to bypass the rapids and dams.
