Glenn Highway
Sheep Mountain and Lodge, AK
As travelers leave the Matnuska Glacier River Valley, they wind uphill from Caribou Creek and its recreation mining opportunities for the hearty. Leaving the view of Lions Head behind, travelers begin to enter Interior Alaska. Sheep Mountain, brightly colored because of its gypsum deposits, attracts Dall sheep to its natural salt licks.
Sheep Mountain Lodge is another of the original roadhouses that caters to winter and summer recreationists alike. Trails abound that can be hiked in the summer and skied in the winter. It is a great place to see the Northern Lights in the winter.
