Massachusetts Section

Section 1 - MA 47 and MA 63

  • The Massachusetts section of the Connecticut River Byway begins at the junction of MA 116 and MA 47 in South Hadley.
  • Travel north on MA 47 for 7.6 miles to Hadley.
  • Continue north on MA 47 for 10 miles through North Hadley and Sunderland.
  • North of Sunderland, continue following MA 47 for 4.5 miles until the junction with MA 63.
  • Travel north east on MA 63 for 4.6 miles to Millers Falls.
  • Continue north on MA 63 for 8 miles to the junction with MA 10.
  • Continue north on MA63/MA 10 for 3 miles until the Massachusetts/New Hampshire border north of Northfield.

New Hampshire Section

Section 1 - NH 63 and NH 12

  • Start at the Massachusetts border north along NH 63 and continue for 21.6 miles to the intersection of NH 63, and NH 12.
  • From the intersection of NH 63 and NH 12 N, go 5.7 miles to Walpole.
  • First Bridge Crossing
    • Cross the Connecticut River on NH 123 to U.S. Hwy. 5 west of Walpole, NH.
    • Return from US 5 to NH 12 in New Hampshire.

Section 2 - NH 123

  • Continue north along NH 12 for 2.7 miles.
  • Spur
    • At the junction of NH 12 and NH 123 north of Walpole go east to the village of Cold River.
    • Return to NH 12.
  • Continue north on NH 12 to North Walpole.
  • Second Bridge Crossing
    • Travel southwest from NH 12 to State Hwy 5 over the Arch Bridge.
    • From US 5 return over the Arch Bridge back into New Hampshire.

Section 3 - NH 12 and NH 12A

  • Follow NH 12 for 3.5 miles to the intersection of NH 12 and NH 12A east.
  • Continue traveling north on NH12/NH 12A.
  • Third Bridge Crossing
    • Turn left onto Springfield Rd bridge crossing north of Charlestown.
    • Return to NH 12 and continue north.
  • Take NH 12 for 10 miles into Claremont and continue west as the road intersects with NH 103.
  • Fourth Bridge Crossing
    • Travel 4 miles and take the Old Bridge Rd crossing into VT.
    • Return to NH 12 and follow to junction with NH 12A.
  • Travel north 5.5 miles on NH 12A.
  • Fifth Bridge Crossing
    • West of the Cornish State Wildlife Management Area, take Bridge St to US 5 in Vermont.
    • Return to NH 12A.
  • Travel north to Plainfield Village and through West Lebanon until you intersect with US 4.

Section 4 - US 4 and NH 10

  • From the intersection of 12A and US 4, continue north for 0.3 miles.
  • Sixth Bridge Crossing
    • Take bridge crossing to US 5 on Maple St/Bridge St.
    • Return and Follow NH 10 North for 4 miles to Hanover.
  • Seventh Bridge Crossing
    • Follow NH 10A west over W. Wheelock St bridge crossing.
    • Return and continue traveling northeast on NH 10.
  • In 10 miles exit onto E Thetford Rd.
  • Eighth Bridge Crossing
    • Take the E Thetford Rd bridge crossing to US 5 in Vermont.
    • Return to NH 10.
  • Continue 7 miles along NH 10.
  • Ninth Bridge Crossing
    • Take bridge crossing to US 5 at Orford.
    • Return to NH 10.
  • Continue traveling north to Piermont.
  • Tenth Bridge Crossing
    • At Piermont, take NH 25 to US 5.
    • Return to NH 10 in Piermont.
  • Continue 13.5 miles to the junction of NH 10, NH 135 and US 302.
  • Travel northwest on US 302 in Woodsville.
  • Eleventh Bridge Crossing
    • Take US 302/Railroad St to US 5 in Vermont.
    • Return to US 302 and NH 135.
  • Spur
    • Travel on US 302/Rum Hill Rd east to Bath.
    • Return to NH 135

Section 5 - NH 135 and US 3

  • Follow NH 135 for 8 miles into Monroe.
  • Twelfth Bridge Crossing
    • Take bridge crossing to US 5 at McIndoes Falls Rd.
    • Return and travel north on NH 135 12 miles to the intersection with NH 18.
  • Spur and Thirteenth Bridge Crossing
    • Travel north on NH 18 to US 2/Theodore Roosevelt Hwy in Vermont.
    • Return to junction of NH 135 and NH 18.
  • Spur and Fourteenth Bridge Crossing
    • Travel east to the ramp of I/93 and travel northwest on I-93 to US 5 in Vermont.
    • Return to junction of NH 135 and NH 18.
  • Continue traveling on NH 135 Lancaster.
  • Drive .6 miles on US 3/Main St to to US 2.
  • Fifteenth Bridge Crossing
    • Take US 2 into Vermont.
    • Return to Lancaster and continue traveling north on US 3.
  • Travel 6 miles to Northumberland.
  • Sixteenth Bridge Crossing
    • Cross the river at Guild Hall Rd onto VT 102.
    • Return to US 3 and travel north.
  • Seventeenth Bridge Crossing
    • Take bridge crossing at Maidstone Bridge Rd.
    • Return to US 3 and travel north to Colebrook.
  • Eighteenth Bridge Crossing
    • Take bridge crossing at NH 26 into VT.
    • Return to US 3 and continue to West Stewartstown.
  • Nineteenth Bridge Crossing
    • Take bridge crossing at Gale St.
  • Return to US 3 and continue until the Canadian border.

Section 6 - US 3 and NH 145

  • From border, turn around and drive south on US 3.
  • Near Pittsburgh, US 3 and NH 145 intersect. Follow NH 145 for 13.1 miles until junction with US 3.

Vermont Section

Section 1 - VT 142 and US 5

  • Leaving from the Vermont/Massachusetts border, follow VT 142 for 10.8 miles until it intersects with US 5.
  • Follow US 5 for about 18 miles.
  • First Bridge Crossing
    • Cross the Connecticut River over SR 123 to NH 12.
    • Return to US 5 in Vermont.
  • Continue on US 5 until you reach Bellows Falls.
  • Second Bridge Crossing
    • Cross the Arch Bridge over to NH 12.
    • Return to US 5 in Vermont.
  • Continue on US 5 for 10 miles until the road merges with SR 11.
  • Third Bridge Crossing
    • Cross Connecticut River at SR 11 into New Hampshire.
    • Return to US 5.
  • Continue north on US 5 for 11 miles until the junction with NH 12.
  • Fourth Bridge Crossing
    • Cross the Connecticut River at NH 12/Old Bridge Rd.
    • Return to US 5 in Vermont
  • Continue north on US 5 for 5 miles, heading towards Windsor.
  • Fifth Bridge Crossing
    • At Union St/Bridge St, cross the Connecticut River to NH 12A.
    • Return to US 5 in Vermont.
  • Continue north on US 5 for 14 miles towards White River Junction.
  • Sixth Bridge Crossing
    • At US 4, cross the Connecticut River to West Lebanon.
    • Return to US 5 in Vermont.
  • Continue north on US 5 for 4.5 miles.
  • Seventh Bridge Crossing
    • Cross the Connecticut River over SR 10A/W Wheelock St to Hanover, New Hampshire.
    • Return to US 5 in Vermont.
  • Continue north on US 5 for 10 miles, heading towards East Thetford.
  • Eighth Bridge Crossing
    • Cross the Connecticut River at VT 113 into New Hampshire.
    • Return to US 5 in Vermont.
  • Continue northeast on US 5 for 8 miles.
  • Ninth Bridge Crossing
    • Just southeast of Lake Morey, cross the Connecticut River at NH 25A into Orford, New Hampshire.
    • Return to US 5 in Vermont.
  • Continue north on US 5 for 5.5 miles.
  • Tenth Bridge Crossing
    • Cross the Connecticut River at NH 25 into New Hampshire.
    • Return to US 5 in Vermont.
  • Continue north on US 5 for 14 miles, heading towards Wells River.
  • Eleventh Bridge Crossing
    • At US 302/Railroad St, cross the Connecticut River into Woodsville, New Hampshire.
    • Return to US 5 in Vermont.
  • Continue north on US 5 for 8 miles, heading towards McIndoe Falls.
  • Twelfth Bridge Crossing
    • Cross the Connecticut River at McIndoes Falls Rd into Monroe, New Hampshire.
    • Return to US 5 in Vermont.
  • Thirteenth Bridge Crossing
    • Take the on ramp and drive southeast on I-91 to I-93.
    • Drive east on I-93 to I-93/Styles Bridges Hwy. in New Hampshire.
    • Drive southeast on I-93/Styles Bridges Hwy. to the ramp going to State Hwy. 18/State Hwy. 135/St. Johnsbury Rd.
    • Return to the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 5 to I-91.
  • Continue north on US 5 for 1 mile and exit onto US 2.
  • Continue on US 2 for 3 miles.
  • Fourteenth Bridge Crossing
    • Take ST 18 into New Hampshire.
    • Return to US 2 in Vermont.
  • Continue east on US 2 towards Lunenburg.
  • Fifteenth Bridge Crossing
    • Exit onto River Rd, and take Elm St to cross the river into New Hampshire.
    • Return to US 2 in Vermont.
  • Continue northeast on US 2 for 4 miles until the junction with SR 102.
  • Sixteenth Bridge Crossing
    • Take US 2 to cross river into Lancaster, New Hampshire.
    • Return to US 2/VT 102 junction.

Section 2 - VT 102

  • Continue north on VT 102 for 7 miles.
  • Seventeenth Bridge Crossing
    • Cross the river at Guild Hall Rd on to US 3 in Northumberland, New Hampshire.
    • Return to VT 102
  • Continue north on VT 102 for 7 miles.
  • Eighteenth Bridge Crossing
    • Exit on to Lamoureaux Rd/Maidstone Bridge Rd to US 3 in New Hampshire.
    • Return to VT 102 in Vermont.
  • Continue on VT 102 for 22 miles.
  • Ninteenth Bridge Crossing
    • Cross river at SR 26 into Colebrook, New Hampshire.
    • Return to VT 102 in Vermont.
  • Continue on VT 102 for 8 miles, heading towards West Stewartstown.
  • Twentieth Bridge Crossing
    • At intersection with VT 114, exit on to VT 114/Gale St to US 3 in West Stewartstown, New Hampshire, where the byway ends.
