Historic Route 66
Petrified Forest National Park Route 66 Interpretive Stop, AZ
The PFNP is the only National Park that Route 66 ran through. After the Park was bypassed, Rangers set out to preserve the Park’s Route 66 history. It’s the only place where telephone poles still stand along the abandoned Route, and there is a well-preserved stretch of road that they do not allow to be driven. There is an excellent interpretive stop with interesting artifacts that tells the Petrified Forest National Park connection. The Desert Inn is another piece of the Route 66 story preserved at the park.
