Crowley's Ridge Parkway
Four Mile House, MO
Four Mile House was constructed in the town of Four Mile on top of Crowley's Ridge and is a good example of pioneer construction methods.
The original owner, Dr. Given Owen, was considered a very generous man who regularly invited everyone in his church's congregation over to his home for Sunday dinner. But his home became most famous when it was used as a shelter/prison for Union and Confederate soldiers wounded in the "Battle of Chalk Bluff."
Eventually the railroad came through the area and the town of Four Mile was abandoned. Today the Four Mile House is a private residence and is on the National Historical Registry.
Four Mile House is currently not open for visits.
