Big Bend Scenic Byway
Ochlockonee River, FL

One of the Apalachee region’s most important river corridors and significant greenways, it connects the Red Hills in Georgia with the public forests and coastal areas of the Bend. Designated an Outstanding Florida Water, it is a Strategic Habitat Conservation Area for the Florida Black Bear. The upper river segment is classified as an alluvial stream community, which is rare in the southeast, and contains many fish, mussels, wildlife, and plant species that are endangered.
