Experience the evolving history of neon sign art that is as much a part of Las Vegas as wedding chapels and gaming. The history of neon signs is not unique to Las Vegas, but the sheer quality and quantity here is very unique and can be seen on this itinerary. Come in the early evening when it is cooler and the lights can be viewed in all their glory. This trip is best taken in the cooler months of the year. Set aside at least four hours to really enjoy this experience.

Day 1

  • Start: Neon Museum & Bone Yard

    Make an appointment ahead of time to visit the Neon Museum & Bone Yard, your first stop on this itinerary. At this site, you'll discover a collection of more than 200 historic neon signs, a unique collection used in numerous movies and television shows.

  • Stop 1: Fremont Street Experience

    From previous stop: 3 minutes / 1 mi (1.6 km)
    Directions:

    Turn left out of the parking lot of the Neon Museum on Las Vegas Boulevard, and drive south one mile to Carson Avenue. Turn right on Carson Avenue and drive one block to Fourth Street. Turn right on Fourth Street and then right into the “Red Parking Garage”.

    Suggested time at this stop: 1 hour 30 minutes

    This next stop includes a dozen restored historic neon signs displayed at eye level. Another must see is the three-city-block lit canopy with colorful shows every half-hour after dark. Enjoy the largest digital lightshow on earth while learning about the bridge between neon lights and the evolution of Las Vegas.

  • End: Fremont East Entertainment District

    From previous stop: 2 minutes / 0.1 mi (0.2 km)
    Directions:

    Walk one block east of the Fremont Street Experience on Fremont Street, just across Las Vegas Boulevard.

    One block to the east of the Fremont Street Experience, the Fremont East Entertainment District features “retro” signs in the classic neon sign style but that are made with modern LEED technology. You'll see firsthand how Las Vegas maintains traditions in a modern, energy-saving manner. Take in the seamless bridge between traditional neon sign art and modern LEED sign art, clearly displayed in this high-energy district, the last stop on the itinerary.
