Twenty-eight homes with architectural styles ranging from the 1870s to 1920s are included in this historic district.

American Mountaineering Center (CO)
This center contains a recreational climbing gym; large auditorium for seminars, lectures, and concerts; and the western hemisphere's largest mountaineering library.

This 1867 hand-cut stone hotel has now been converted to a museum and is owned by the city of Golden, CO.

Turn left onto Washington Avenue and proceed 7 blocks (.7 miles) to 12th Street. Turn left onto 12th Street and go west a half block and it is on your right.

Bear Creek Canyon Scenic Mountain Drive (CO)
This narrow canyon became the southern entrance to Denver Mountain Parks in 1912 after the road was improved by Denver. Denver and Jefferson counties have purchased most of the properties along this 4-mile stretch that is on the National Register of Historic Places. People can fish, hike, bicycle and picnic in the canyon. Approximately one third of the land along the Loop has been preserved as open space by Denver and Jefferson counties.

In 1917 Charles Boettcher built a summer home of timber and native rock for his family. The house is designed in the classic American "arts and crafts" style. Charles Boettcher was a German immigrant who made his fortune provisioning miners and investing in real estate.

Buffalo Bill Grave & Museum (CO)
This is the burial place of William "Buffalo Bill" Cody. Nearby are the museum and Pahaska Tepee. All are located within Lookout Mountain Park.

Buffalo Herd Overlook and Genesee Mountain Park (CO)
Between 1914 and 1939, Denver purchased over 2,300 acres of property for Genesee Mountain Park, the first of 14,000 acres they would eventually purchase for the benefit of their citizens. This was the first time a local government purchased park property outside of their jurisdiction. In 1914 Denver brought buffalo from Yellowstone in order to keep last remaining buffalo from going extinct. The descendants can be seen in the park along with great views of the Rockies.

This is an 1870s "living history" site complete with restored family cabins, outhouse, one-room school, log barn and chicken coop, and other related structures.

CSM is one of the most prestigious engineering schools in the country. It was founded in 1869 and became the first state university in 1876. It was established to prepare students for the mining industry. The Arthur Lakes Library is named after the professor who found dinosaurs on Dinosaur Ridge in 1877 and became the first State Geologist. The Geology Museum displays minerals from around the world and discusses the history of mining in Colorado.

Turn left onto Illinois Street and proceed three blocks until you reach 16th Street. Turn left onto 16th Street and go one block to Maple Street. Turn right onto Maple Street and proceed to the corner of 13th Street.
