Restrictions

Any licensed automobile or motorcycle is capable of traveling on the Lincoln Highway. There are some abandoned stretches of original roadbed that are not navigable; however, these are usually obviously on private property and so marked "NO TRESPASSING" but have been replaced by newer alignments. No gaps exist on the highway.

Typical 40-passenger tour buses may travel easily on most sections of the byway, but tour planners should check with the local convention and visitors bureau for up-to-date weight restrictions which may apply on older sections.

Seasons

Best Time to Drive

Any time of year is fine; however, autumn provides great scenery. Other exciting things happen in fall, as well. The annual Ohio Lincoln Highway BUY-WAY Yard Sale always happens the second full weekend in August, Thursday, Friday and Saturday on all alignments across Ohio, and also includes sales in Indiana, Illinois and Iowa. In 2012, the dates are August 9, 10 and 11.

High Season

The byway route is mostly rural with little traffic congestion other than on a six-mile stretch between Canton and Massillon. Further, traffic might be heavy for special events in different towns. Especially be cautious during the BUY-WAY Yard Sales as there are many increased hazards with stopped cars and ones entering and pulling off the highway.
