Camping

  • There are three campgrounds near the byway: Camel Lake, Hickory Landing, and Wright Lake. Each has a picnic table, grill or fire ring, and available drinking water.
  • As of 2004, a $3.00 per vehicle fee applies to Hickory Landing. As of 2004, a $5.00 per campsite fee applies to Camel Lake Recreation Area. This area includes a bathhouse with flush toilets, along with cold water outdoor showers.
  • As of 2004, an $8.00 fee applies to Wright Lake Recreation Area. A bathhouse includes flush toilets and hot showers. A dump station for RVs is also available, and the site is wheelchair accessible.
  • No alcohol is allowed at Camel Lake or Wright Lake Recreation Areas.
  • White Oak, Cliff Lake, and Big Gully are undeveloped Hunt Camps. These sites have portable restrooms and trash cans.
  • Non-impact camping is allowed anywhere in the forest, except during hunting season. During deer gun hunting season, camping is only allowed at campgrounds and hunt camps.
