Lake Erie Coastal Ohio Trail
Western Reserve Historical Society Museum, OH

As American colonies formed in the early 1800s, western borders were often not included since settlers didn't know how far west a region went. Northern Ohio lies west of Connecticut, so this land became part of that state. In 1786, Connecticut gave up western claims, except for a portion of northern Ohio known as the Connecticut Western Reserve. The land later sold to the Connecticut Land Company which surveyed and settled the region. This site includes history and transportation museums and a library.
