Blue Crab Scenic Byway
Visitor Services

The several visitor centers, gateways, and chambers of commerce along the byway have a full range of promotional byway and regional material available. All staff are trained to give complete information to the visitor regarding the byways. FOREST kiosks located at visitor centers will allow visitors to electronically request a customized map/itinerary, which will also be available online at the Lower Eastern Shore Heritage Council website.

Special Considerations

Due to the seasonal nature of its use, the Whitehaven Ferry may be closed at times. An alternate route is available with little or no inconvenience. Call the Ferry Hotline 410-543-2765 for ferry operating hours. Closing times vary from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., depending on the time of year.

Best Time to Drive

Late Spring provides the best opportunity to drive the byway and experience the many festivals and sites that tell of the byway's cultural heritage.

High Season

Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, and long weekend getaways throughout summer are the times when beach traffic may cause delays.
