Mt. Hood Scenic Byway
Hood River (OR)
Hood River is a growing city about 60 miles from Portland. It was named after Mt. Hood and the Hood River, both of which were named for Lord Hood by the British explorer Lt. Broughton.
The city boasts fantastic views of the Columbia River and Mount Hood. Although it is known as the "windsurfing capital of the world", its fishing, hiking, and skiing are also excellent.
The city has recently renovated its downtown district. The area is one of Oregon's major apple-growing centers.
