Dahomey National Wildlife Refuge (MS)
Dahomey is truly an island of forested wetlands in a sea of agricultural land and represents a variety of natural habitats in the northwestern part of the state. The refuge is the largest remaining tract of bottomland hardwood-forested wetlands in the northwest portion of Mississippi.
Distance from byway: On the byway Directions: From Cleveland, go south on HWY 61 and turn west on HWY 446 at Boyle. Refuge properties are signed and lie north and south of HWY 446 about 15 miles west of Boyle. From Rosedale, head south on HWY 1 through Beulah. Five and one half miles south of Beulah, turn east on HWY 446. Refuge properties start 2.5 miles east of HWY 1, are signed and lie north and south of HWY 446. The refuge headquarters is located on the north side of HWY 446.

Great River Road State Park (MS)
Situated inside the Mississippi River levee and bordered by the majestic Mississippi river on its western edge, Great River Road State Park offers magnificent views of the “Fathers of Waters” from a setting unmatched in natural beauty. The focal point is a 75-foot-high overlook tower, which provides panoramic views of the river. The park follows the Mississippi from its beginning as a small Canadian creek to its end at the Gulf of Mexico.

Holt Collier National Wildlife Refuge (MS)
Spanning 1,449 acres, Holt Collier National Wildlife Refuge honors a man who was born a slave in 1846, served as a Confederate Cavalry scout, and led a life of adventure.

Longwood is the largest octagonal house in North America and contains Oriental-inspired architecture. The remains are unfinished because construction was halted at the onset of the Civil War.

Drive along the Mississippi River to Rosedale, MS. Your drive will take through long stretches of remote farm lands. The farms of today are thousands of acres in size and utilize massive equipment that requires very few employees. Cotton was once king of the Mississippi Delta crops but in the past few years corn for ethanol production has become a major crop of the region. You will see cotton gins (operating in the fall) and grain storage bins all along the route. Don't miss the history of Blues, a quintessential element of the Mississippi Delta.

Confederate flags, including one that was never surrendered, the tie worn by Jefferson Davis at his inauguration as Confederate president, fine portraits, china and silver, exquisite antique furniture, the trophy antlers won by the steamboat Robert E Lee in an 1870 race, antebellum clothing, toys, Indian and pioneer implements and an original Teddy Bear owned by Theodore Roosevelt are just a few of the thousands of artifacts housed in the Old Court Museum.

Panther Swamp National Wildlife Refuge (MS)
Established in 1978, Panther Swamp National Wildlife Refuge encompasses 38,697 acres and encompasses one of the largest blocks (21,000 acres) of bottomland forest in the lower Mississippi River alluvial floodplain.
Distance from byway: On the byway Directions: Panther Swamp National Wildlife Refuge is located ten miles southwest of Yazoo City, Mississippi. From Yazoo City, take MS Highway 149W across the Yazoo River bridge, then take the first paved road to the left (River Road).

Right in the heart of the Mississippi Delta, The Tunica Riverpark offers a new learning experience like no other. The Riverpark Museum is an extensive, one-of-a-kind interactive, interpretive center that showcases the legend and the life of the river and its history.

Twenty-three columns are all that remain of the most impressive mansion ever built in Mississippi. During the War Between the States, Windsor was used as an observation post by the Confederates who sent signals from its cupola across the river to Louisiana.

Winterville Mounds and Museum (MS)
The Winterville Mounds and Museum is one of the largest Indian Mounds groups in the Mississippi Valley and includes area artifacts reflecting the history of the area. Winterville Mounds, named for a nearby community, is the site of a prehistoric ceremonial center built by a Native American civilization that thrived from about A.D. 1000 to 1450. The mounds, part of the Winterville society’s religious system, were the site of sacred structures and ceremonies.
