Special Considerations

Rare plant species are posted and protected in this area. Destroying the Fossil Lake sand dunes is also prohibited. Vandalism carries penalties of fines up to $10,000 and one year of jail.

This is a Type II byway. High clearance vehicles are required but most two-wheel drive vehicles will be able to drive the roads in good weather. These types of roads are usually unpaved.

Restrictions

Drivers are required to have high clearance vehicles but they can be two-wheel drive. The roads are a combination of double lane-paved roads, gravel, and single lane dirt roads.
