Special Considerations
This route is both a Type I and a Type II road, composed of sand and gravel. During wet weather, it may not be safe to drive. Even if it looks safe, vehicles can get stuck very easily.
Be sure to bring along extra water as you drive through this desert area. Also make sure your vehicle has plenty of gas. Between Vernon and Wendover, gas is not available, and gas is available only periodically in Ibapah.
Seasons
- Best Time to Drive
The route is open throughout the year, however, the best and safest seasons are spring and fall. There are no vehicle restrictions, but four-wheel drive vehicles with chains, tow rope or winch are recommended after heavy rain or snow.
