C&O Canal National Historical Park - Potomac (MD)
The C&O Canal National Historical Park preserves an early 19th Century canal.
Location: 11710 MacArthur Blvd in Potomac.

The site of Mile 0 (the origin point) of the National Road is located in Cumberland near George Washington's headquarters in Riverside Park. Cumberland was chosen by Congress in 1806 as a natural starting point for the National Road for several reasons.

Cumberland C&O Canal National Historical Park Visitor Center (MD)
The C&O Canal was built alongside the Potomac River between 1828 and 1850. In 1971, it became a National Historic Park.
Location: Western Maryland Railway Station, 13 Canal Street, Cumberland.

The Paw Paw tunnel is a 3,118 foot tunnel through Sorrel Ridge.
Location: The tunnel is located 1.2 miles northeast of Paw Paw on B Evans Ln.

Point of Rocks is a historic community along the Potomac River where both canal and railroad vied for proximity to the river as they were constructed along and through huge rock formations.
Location: Located at the junction of US 15 and Tuscarora Road on the Potomac River

The Western Maryland Station Center, home of the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad, C&O Canal National Park Visitor Center, and the Allegany County Visitor's Information Center, provides ample parking and information about Cumberland.
