  • Burkhalter House (GA)

    Revolutionary War Soldier Jacob Burkhalter built the first colonial house in Warren County, with the columns of the porch being the square type used in that day. It was in this home that General Lafayette, on his last visit to America, spent two weeks being nursed back to health.

  • Rock Mill Plantation

    Rock Mill Plantation (GA)

    This federal style house was built in 1810 with materials procured from the land including the twelve by six foot granite blocks that make up the foyer in the front of the house. Originally including 6600 acres of what is now Warren and Hancock Counties, this structure has survived wars, squatters, and several owners.

    Although the Warren County Courthouse was built in 1910, the town of Warrenton has been the county seat of Warren County since 1793, when courts were held in the house of James McCormick.

    Named for Revolutionary War hero General Joseph Warren, Warrenton is home to several historic sites, including the Warren County Courthouse and the Burkhalter House, which date back to Civil War times.

    Warrenton is located just 42 miles west of Augusta and 100 miles east of Atlanta on Interstate 20. Athens is 65 miles northeast, Macon is 80 miles southwest, and Savannah is 139 miles south.
