Journey Through Hallowed Ground Byway - Pennsylvania
Gettysburg National Military Park, PA
This park is the site of the Battle of Gettysburg, a turning point in the Civil War. The Union victory in the summer of 1863 ended General Robert E. Lee’s second and most ambitious invasion of the North, which ended with the failure of Pickett's Charge. Gettysburg also provided President Abraham Lincoln with the setting for his most famous address, in which he dedicated the cemetery.
The visitor center hosts a Civil War museum featuring items from all parts of the war. It also houses the historic Cyclorama and has 11 galleries of exhibits.
Pickett’s Charge at Gettysburg is known as the ‘high-water mark’ of the Confederacy. Today, visitors to Gettysburg National Military Park can retrace the movements of this famous battle.
