America's Byways and National Wildlife Refuges
Schoodic Scenic Byway
(Maine)
Drive the Schoodic Scenic Byway through part of Maine's eastern seaboard, including the quiet side of Acadia National Park. Here, the landscape remains as preserved and unspoiled as the culture and traditions. Discover for yourself the local charm enhanced by mountains, coastal islands, historic architecture, and lighthouses. Drive a few miles north of Prospect Harbor and visit Maine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuge, which covers 47 offshore islands and three coastal parcels. Over 7,400 acres, the complex spans more than 150 miles of Maine's coastline, comprised of five national wildlife refuges: Petit Manan, Cross Island, Franklin Island, Seal Island, and Pond Island.
